Mintview: Turning Over a New Leaf

Posted 2024/8/2

Today's the first day of this save!! I reset my town from scratch, so I don't have anything carrying over from my old town. Mintview is a blank slate for me! I also wanted it to be more of a roll-with-the-punches playthrough, so no save editor for any reason and no resetting!

On the train to Mintview, Rover sat across from me, and when he showed me the maps.... they were all terrible.

Pardon the low quality, I don't have a capture card (or a hacked 3DS at all, for that matter, I don't have a computer with a microSD slot), but I can't articulate just how bad these maps were with words. The first one was fine, but the pond arrangement looked super unnatural which I wasn't a fan of.

I eventually decided on the last one since, in my opinion, it was the least bad, and I thought the pond right in front of the train station would be a fun challenge!

The train arrived in Mintview and I got off in... a red.... train station.... which completely clashed with what I had in mind for the town's theme!! XX( But its ok, i can work with this. I GUESS. As long as the town fruit isn't oranges-

Oh. would you look at that. The town fruit is oranges.

...I then immediately reset the town. Oranges are my least favorite town fruit, and having them was the last straw for me.

So, on the train to Mintview (for REAL this time), when I got to the map selection, the maps were a LOT better. Thank God!! XX)

This is the map I decided on. The beach ramp faced South, making it easy to get to and from the dock, and it has a secret beach, two things that are really important factors for me when I'm deciding on a map. The beaches are to the East, while the cliffs and waterfall are to the West, another small preference in my towns. The smaller number of ponds makes it easier to work with as well.

But, there are also some interesting quirks! For one, the pond and town hall right by the train station make it interesting, as well as the hugeeee river bend. This is a kind of controversial opinion, but I prefer rivers with huge bends like this as opposed to straight rivers. Although theyre not as convenient for decoration, I feel like they add character to a map, and they also provide more spawn area for river fish, and I love fishing!! XX3

I got off the train into a blue train station, which I was quite happy about!! I was greeted by Kiki, Papi, Cousteau, and of course, Isabelle herself!! This made me really excited, since I love cat villagers, and I had Cousteau in a super old town so I was happy to see him again! Pompom and Rooney were the other 2 villagers. I'm excited to get to know all of them!!

Before going to the town hall with Isabelle, I decided to find the perfect fruit again, and- oh.... the town fruit..... is oranges.... again.....

WHATEVER! I can just dig up all the orange trees and replace them with something else! I guess! Plus, perfect oranges are a good color for a project I'm planning, so it's ok! I'm ok with this! I guess!

I met up with Tom Nook, and spent a lottt of time debating on where I wanted to live. I wanted to make sure it wouldn't conflict with any pathing I might want to place in the future. Eventually, I decided to put it in the river bend!! I think it's a fun location, and I could have bridges on either side and put a path in front of and perpendicular to my house!! Plus, I wanted to take advantage of the unique shape of the river and do something unique to higlight that!!

Then it was time for the Commemoration Ceremony in the Plaza!! I planted the Town Tree and on August 2nd, 2024, I became the mayor of Mintview.

After that, I found the money and ore rocks, paid off my down payment, and began speedrunning Isabelle's tutorial. Unfortunately, I accidentally chose fishing after buying the fishing rod and shovel from Nookling Junction, so I'm stuck without a net for a bit, but that's ok!! I think!! I hope!!

But ya, that was it for today!! I'll probably post town updates the first of every month so I don't get burnt out from writing these too easily.
